Scrapp: A Mission-Driven Workforce Success Story (And Why It Matters)

Scrapp: A Mission-Driven Workforce Success Story (And Why It Matters)

Posted on December 15th, 2025

I met Mikey Pasciuto and Evan Gwynne Davies in 2020 when they competed in the UNH Social Venture Innovation Challenge (SVIC). These young innovators came to the competition with a stubborn belief that recycling shouldn’t be as confusing as it is. They were the kind of students who didn’t wait for permission to solve a problem. They saw waste, contamination, and misinformation everywhere and thought, “Why can’t technology fix this?”.

Their early idea quickly gained momentum, winning the SVIC, other idea competitions, and the hearts of everyone who saw their potential. I was one of those people.

That question became the seed of Scrapp, the waste-data platform that helps companies, institutions, and communities recycle accurately and reduce unnecessary waste.

Watching their commitment to impact is what eventually led me to join Scrapp’s Board of Directors. It’s an honor to be part of a team that truly believes business can be a tool for environmental responsibility, transparency, and smarter systems. And it’s been incredible to support their growth as they move from early-stage founders to strong, values-driven leaders.

Today, Scrapp is in its fourth year and fully self-sustaining. That’s a huge milestone for any startup, especially one built on mission-driven principles. They’ve secured partnerships with organizations like Microsoft and Miami-Dade County, helping reduce contamination, cut operational costs, and improve recycling outcomes at scale. Specifically, they’ve identified a way to reduce a brand's landfill waste by 37%, identified millions in EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) costs for a brand and saved a municipal client over $33k in the first year.

They’re successfully working with companies, universities, municipalities, and entire waste systems to save money and protect the environment from unnecessary waste.

But the story of Scrapp is also a story about the future of workforce development.

Scrapp represents what becomes possible when you invest in young talent early, trust them with real problems, and build environments where purpose and profit can grow together. They are part of a new generation of leaders who don’t accept the old tradeoff between doing well and doing good.

And it’s this Changemaker mindset that the modern workforce needs:

  • Businesses that prioritize environmental and social responsibility.
  • B Corps and B-Corp-aligned companies that put values into action.
  • Leaders who empower employees with clarity and purpose.
  • Teams that see sustainability as a shared responsibility, not a department.
  • Young people who have the skills, and the courage, to innovate systems that desperately need it.

Today, my role on Scrapp’s board gives me a front-row seat to watch this happen. I see a team that is relentlessly mission-driven, operationally smart, and deeply committed to building a sustainable world, not just in principle, but in practice.

Scrapp’s journey is a testament to why investing my time and energy in young leaders is one of the most powerful ways we can shape a better future.

They started as students with an idea.

Today, they’re building systems that save money, reduce waste, and help entire industries operate more responsibly.

And we’re only in year four.
